With all
the different hair salons out there, it can seem impossible to find one that
will give you exactly the hair cut and treatment you’re looking for. You might
not want to spend too much, but still want a cut that looks high quality. Or
maybe you don’t care how much it costs so long as they’ll bring you a
cappuccino and give you that perfectly layered cut you saw Rihanna walking
around with. Whatever you’re looking for in beauty salons, we’ll break down
where to find it.
Upscale
Hair Salons
Many hotels
and beauty spas feature hair salons that are all about pampering the customer.
You’ll probably be able to get a manicure and pedicure (with massage included,
naturally) at the same time your hair is being cut. You’ll be offered your
choice of beverages and a selection of spa experiences, and the haircut you
receive is likely to be of extremely high quality. The beauty products will be
top-shelf, and you’ll probably be extremely happy with the whole experience.
The downside, of course, is that this sort of treatment comes with the highest
price tag of the lot, which may not be worth it for you.
Trendy Hair
Salons
The trendy
hair salons are different from the upscale in that they’re not about pampering
– they’re about style. These hair salons usually feature some of the most
innovative, up and coming stylists in the area, people who aren’t afraid to
take risks and keep you on the cutting edge. You won’t get a lot of personal
attention; in fact, you may feel downright ignored and rushed. You also may be
more subject to the stylist’s vision than your own desires for your haircut.
However, they’re good places to go if you like to be up on the latest fashions
and don’t mind a little brusque treatment to get it. You’ll find the price tag
a little lower than the upscale hair salons, but not by much.
Independent
Hair Salons
These are
the tried and true, Mom-n-Pop hair salons that have always been just around the
corner. Some of these can be absolute gems, if the owner is devoted to finding
good talent and keeping it, and they can definitely be one of the best
combinations of great haircuts and an affordable price tag. One downside of
independent hair salons is that they may not be as careful about maintaining
their facilities. One good way to tell if a salon is keeping up with the times
is by checking the magazines they have on hand and whether it’s orderly. Take a
look at their hair care products and hair shears, too – if they’re not of high
quality, the salon may not be committed to it in general.
Chain Hair
Salons
Depending
on how well-known the chain is for its quality hair cuts, these can be
excellent places to get a discount on your cut. The stylists are often not paid
very much, which can mean they’re not especially devoted to doing a good job.
It means you’re unlikely to find experienced or talented stylists, though you
may find a perfectly competent newbie you’re satisfied with. The appeal of
chain hair salons is the price tag, and if you can find a new hair stylist
simply gaining experience with a lot of talent, you may choose to follow her to
a new salon when she moves on – hopefully keeping a pretty low price for your
loyalty.
